November 13, 2004 So what woke me up today at 3:38 am?
Let's take a look at the path this civic had to take to get outside my window, starting from Palmilla Drive:
Remember, this is not a small complex. If you know the area at all, you know how ridiculous it is that the guy ever got out there. The guy smashed into two garages, marked on the map by a dark blue dot and a green dot. The cyan dot is our garage. The yellow dot is where he got stuck.
Here's our neighbor's garage (ours is the one just to the right of it). The little Civic managed to break through the garage door, smash into a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was parked inside, and push the Jeep forward into a motorcycle that was sitting in front of it. The best part? The people that live there are on vacation: The other garage:
So the street above curves to the left. This guy didn't. He decided to just go through here instead:
But nope. That's not an exit. It's a walkway.. and it's a pretty big, dangerous drop to the left of this path. Civic boy wasn't worried:
Here are some sequential pictures of the path the Civic took on the walkway - all 150 yards (my 8-to-5 does not lie). Keep in mind that there's a long drop to the left of the entire path:
The car managed to clear the first set of steps:
..as you can see:
The Civic being towed this morning:
So the damage? There are 4 broken handrails along the path, 3 or 4 lamp posts were knocked down (one flew about 15 feet), a patio wall got smashed in (gate won't open anymore), the grass is chewed up, a tree had to be cut down to get the car out, two garages are smashed, and a Jeep/motorcycle were damaged. November 14, 2004 So the guy came back today, his car impounded and his license revoked... It turns out that he'd had 10 rum shots within one hour before driving and he doesn't even know how/why he was in our complex. When he saw the damage he'd done to the garages, he was shocked. This was before the residents told him where his car finally ended up...
